STUDY

ISRA (Academy for Islamicjerusalem Studies) has developed Islamicjerusalem Studies at the postgraduate level in the UK, Malaysia and Turkey. It has been taught at the Master and PhD levels at the University of Aberdeen and numerous courses have been taught across the world. Now study is available at masters and PhD in Islamicjerusalem studies in Malaysia and Turkey.

ISRA has also launched the first online Islamicjerusalem Diploma (via distance learning) in Arabic since 2012.  From 2022 it will be run in English in association with Turkish Universites (See Below).

ISRA has also launched the first Islamicjerusalem online Certificate program (via distance learning) in association with Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU).

The program is designed for those who have an intrest in Bayt al-Maqdis and would like to have a solid grounding in understanding the Holy Land.

وهو أول دبلوم (دون الليسانس وأعلى من الثانوية) يطرح على مستوى العالم باللغة العربية. لتكون لبنة إضافية في مسيرة الإعداد تتكامل مع جهود العاملين في المسارات الأخرى لبيت المقدس. ولهذا فهو متاح لكل من يتقن العربية ويتكلم بها، سواء في الأقطار العربية والإسلامية أو دول المهجر، وصممت خارطته التعليمية لتراعي ظروف الأقطار العربية وواقعها وحاجاتها وإمكاناتها.

Scholarships

The Scholarship scheme is a serious effort on the part of the Islamic Research Academy (ISRA), and a great human investment preparing an academic team of young scholars as specialists in Islamic Jerusalem Studies.

 

FIRST PHD GRADUATES IN ISLAMICJERUSALEM STUDIES UNDER THE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

In 1997, the Academy established the first scholarship with al-Faruq Foundation – UK. The Academy’s Scholarship Committee offered the scholarship to Loai Al-Ghazawi to study at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Loai Al-Ghazawi, for PhD thesis entitled: The Legal Status of Jerusalem in Islamic Fiqh (Jurisprudence) and International Law from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2001.

 

In 1999 his Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum offered five scholarships. The Academy’s Scholarship Committee offered these to:

Othman Al-Tel, for PhD thesis entitled: The First Islamic Conquest of Aelia (Islamic Jerusalem); a Critical Analytical Study of the Early Islamic Historical Narratives and Sources. From Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in 2002.

Ahmad Hamad for PhD thesis entitled: Jerusalem and the Politics of Settlement in the Middle East, From University of Edinburgh in 2002.

Haitham Al-Ratrout for PhD thesis entitled: The Architectural Development Of Al-Aqsa Mosque in The Early Islamic Period Sacred Architecture in the shape of the Holy, From the University of Strathclyde in 2002.

Abeer Al-Najar for PhD thesis entitled: The Representation of the Question of Jerusalem in the British Press, 1967-2000: the Times, the Guardian, and the Daily Telgraph, From the University of Edinburgh in 2003.

Maher Abu-Munshar for PhD thesis entitled: A Historical Study of Muslim Treatment of Christians in Islamic Jerusalem at the Time of ‘Umar Ibn al-Khattab and Salah al-Din, with Special Reference to Islamic Value of Justice, From Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in 2003

 

Following Scholarships in Islamicjerusalem Studies

During the academic years 2001/2002 and 2002/2003, ISRA offered its second scholarships under this scheme. The second five postgraduate students who were under the His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Islamicjerusalem Scholarship for Young Researchers have each been granted an M.Litt. in Islamicjerusalem Studies from Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies. Among these five, three registered for their PhD degree in Islamicjerusalem Studies at the Institute

 

In the academic year 2003/2004 ISRA offered its third scholarships under this scheme. Five more postgraduate students have benefited, studying for only a one-year M.Litt. course in Islamicjerusalem Studies at Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

 

For 2004-2005 another five Scholarships have been offered for MLitt in Islamicjerusalem Studies.

 

For 2005-2006 another two Scholarships have been offered for MLitt in Islamicjerusalem Studies.

 

For 2006-2007 another two Scholarships (Full and partial) have been offered and currently those students are undertaking their MLitt programme in Islamicjerusalem Studies.
