The program is designed for those who have an intrest in Bayt al-Maqdis and would like to have a solid grounding in understanding the Holy Land.

What You Will Learn

A number of diverse courses are offered (yearly) in an intensive, easy and interesting manner, focusing on the Islamic dimension and the movement of history in Bayt al-Maqdis.

Bayt al-Maqdis in Quran and Hadith

This course deals with the signifcance of Bayt al-Maqdis in Islam.

Al-Aqsa Mosque the place and significance

This course deals with the site of al-Aqsa from historical, religious, architectual and archeological dimensions.

Maqdisi Project

This is a practical manifistation of turning the knowledge you have gained into a project for Bayt al-Maqdis.

The courses have been designed to give a firm foundation and allow accumulation of knowledge, semester by semester. The following is the listing of the courses for the first year.

Bayt al-Maqdis between occupation and liberation

This course deals with the crusader occupation and the liberation of Salah al-Din.

The current occupation of Bayt al-Maqdis

This course deals with the current Zionist occupation of Bayt al-Maqdis and its background.

Advanced Certificate (2nd Year)

For those who sucessfully complete the first year may continue into a second year.

PhD in Islamicjerusalem Studies

Historical Geography of the Holy Land

A graduate of the pioneering field of Islamicjerusalem Studies where he received his Master’s (2003) and subsequently his PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2006). His main speciality is in the historical-geography of Bayt al-Maqdis and the geographical interpretations of the Qur’an. He has taught at a number of British and Turkish universities and was appointed the director of the Centre of Islamicjerusalem Studies in the UK (2007-2011). Curently he is the Head of Department of Islamic History at Social Sciences University of Ankara.

Bayt al-Maqdis in the Quran and Hadith

One of the first Master’s graduates of the pioneering field of Islamicjerusalem Studies (2003) and subsequently he recived his PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2006). His PhD thesis was on the Quranic and Hadith perspectives on Islamicjerusalem. He is the author of The Significance of Islamicjerusalem in Islam, published in 2017 by University of Malaya Press which received the prestigious award Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN) 2018. He has been a visiting scholar at a number of instutions in Europe and Asia. Recently, he has been appointed as a Member of Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP). Curently he is the Head of Deptartment of Islamic History and Civilization at University of Malaya.

Dr. Maher Abu-Munshar

History of Bayt al-Maqdis and Muslim-Christian Relations

A graduate of the field of Islamicjerusalem Studies where he received PhD from the University of Abertay Dundee (2003). His main speciality is in Muslim-Christian relations in Bayt al-Maqdis and the History of the Holy Land. He is the Author of Islamic Jerusalem and its Christians: A History of Tolerance and Tensions, I.B. Tauris Publishers. He has taught in the UK, Malysia and Qatar. Curently he is Associate Professor of Islamic History at the University of Qatar.

Dr. Nour Abu-Assab

Muslim-Christian relations in Bayt al-Maqdis

A graduate of the field of Islamicjerusalem Studies where she received her Master’s (2009) and subsequently her PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2013). Her main speciality is in the Muslim attitude towards Christian sacred sites. She has taught at number of institutions in Palestine and in the al-Aqsa Mosque. She has published a number of articles in the field and participated in a number of International Academic conferences on Bayt al-Maqdis. Curently she is a teacher of history at al-Awqaf schools in the holy city.

Programme information

Entry requirements

Be at least 18 years old,
To have a high school certificate (or equivalent),
To be able to use the computer and the Internet and communicate through them,
To have a real and serious desire to acquire knowledge about Bayt al-Maqdis.

The programme is composed of 5 core courses. Each course will be taught over 12 weeks. For each course students must dedicate sufficent time for the lecture and of self study; 20 contact hours and 10 hours of independent study.

Classes are made up of lectures, seminars and tutorials and you will have 2-3 hours of contact teaching per week.

Class participation and online discussions will constitute a part of the assessment as well.

12 Classes per course & Over 80 Hours of Instruction

Each course will be over 12 weeks with 1-2 hours sessions.

Assignments and Projects

The assessment is varied and will be both formative and summative. Students will write short essays on a subject about the course. Also a project on Bayt al-Maqdis will be conducted by each student to turn their knowledge into a practical project.

Tuition Fees

Prescribed tution fees includes registration, prescribed courses, and examinations (assignments).

Note: Tuition fees will be discounted by 50% for students who prove to be outstanding with a cumulative average of no less than 90% in the following semester.

Note: 100% fees collected will be used for projects for Bayt al-Maqdis through the Waqf of Bayt al-Maqdis.
